  • the sign/symptom of the imbalance and
  • how to manage/treat the imbalance (Cause, sign & management for each dosha – 9 dot points in total)

    Imbalance: Overworking.
    Sign/symptoms: constant talking, overthinking and feeling weak/tired often.
    Treatment: Don’t do so much. Avoid multitasking. Live a comfortable, relaxed lifestyle.


    Imbalance: Too much hot, spicy foods.
    Sign/symptoms: Diarrhoea (digestion)
    Treatment: Avoid spicy, fatty fried foods.

    Imbalance: Excessive sleep.
    Sign/symptom: Sluggish, lethargic.
    Treatment: Rise early, keep a regular schedule, exercise!

    Signs and Symptoms – out of breath, tired, feeling depleted, deydrated, lightness
    Manage – light nourishing exercise, not exercising beyond ability to take full even breaths.
    Imbalance – aggressive behaviour
    Signs and Symptoms – hot skin rash
    Manage – cooling pranayama (sitali or shitkari)
    Imbalance – frequent heavy meals
    Signs and Symptoms – lethargy, heaviness, weight gain
    Manage – exercise, maintain regular schedule

    • Imbalance: Over stimulation or multi-tasking.

    • the sign/symptom of the imbalance: rushing thoughts, overthinking, stress and exhaustion. Crying and bursting into tears, overly sensitive, worry, negativity and venting.

    • how to manage/treat the imbalance: Rest, re-charge or choose practices that allow for quiet, soothing and nourishing yourself, mindful activity’s in nature, yoga, meditation, restorative/yin practices, be creative and joyful. Be mindful of working long hours, taking little time for self. Create dinacharya. A more regular schedule, get enough sleep, do less, plan well, eat food warm, avoid raw, left-over foods or frozen foods. Abhyanga, explore fluid movements, gentle nourishing practice like restorative practice and a happy easy-going life, comfort etc. Nourishment and faith.


    • Imbalance: Lashing out, fluctuating Mood and behaviours.

    • the sign/symptom of the imbalance: Increased anger, hatred, jealously, negativity and hot flushes, red skin.
    • how to manage/treat the imbalance: Try to cool and calm the self through cooler practices, foods and breathwork designed to reduce the elevated state, heat and turmoil. Pranayama practices, yin/restorative practices, mindful activities and as mentioned above explore and create dinacharya


    • Imbalance: Poor food choices, heavy foods, binging etc.

    • the sign/symptom of the imbalance: Weight Gain, Heaviness, low energy, low mood, demotivated, depression and low self esteem.

    • how to manage/treat the imbalance: Set a daily schedule, make improvements to
    daily routine, as mentioned above. Heart centered practices, mindful activities, good nourishing food routine, eat more regularly the foods that feel lighter, drink more fluids, have more breaks from trying to digest foods. Be kind to yourself

    How to manage/treat – maintain regular bedtime, 10-1030pm

    Cause of imbalance – heat, hot spicy food, hot sun
    Sign/symptom – feeling hot, perspiration
    How to manage/treat – warm not good food, avoid spicy food, moon bathing

    Cause of imbalance- a sedentary lifestyle
    Sign/symptom – overweight, slow metabolism
    How to manage/treat – exercise, avoid laziness

    Signs/symptoms: decreased energy, irritable, tired, weight loss.
    Treatment: Keeping a regular schedule, avoid multitasking, meal prepping for day.


    Imbalance: Heat (season- summer)
    Signs/symptoms: feeling hot/perspiration.
    Treatment: cooling pranayama practices and yoga flows.


    Imbalance: day naps.
    Signs/symptoms: Slow activity, sluggish, weight gain, laziness.
    Treatment: Keep regular schedule, avoid heavy foods (fatty/fried), exercise.

    Signs and symptoms of imbalance – overwhelmed and anxious
    How to manage and treat the imbalance – vata pacifying diet (warm foods add spices), slow down, routine/consistent schedule (eating, sleeping, waking etc.)

    Cause of imbalance – too much hot a spicy foods, hot environments, overstimulating environments, lack of sleep
    Signs and symptoms of imbalance – poor digestion, changes in mental state (anger, irritated, jealous, impatient, judgemental)
    How to manage and treat the imbalance – pita pacifying diet (avoid hot and spicy foods), stay out of the sun and other hot environments like hot shower or bath, limit being in an over-stimulating environment and too much activity

    Cause of imbalance – sedentary lifestyle, overeating, oversleeping, cold weather
    Signs and symptoms of imbalance – easy weight gain (slow metabolism), lymphatic congestion, lethargy, low mood, depression
    How to manage and treat the imbalance – kapha pacifying diet (heating herbs), Abyungha, avoid siestas, more vigorous exercise or yoga practice, tongue scraping.

    Imbalance: Overworking
    Sign/symptoms: feeling tired or lacking enthusiasm as well as feeling overwhelmed
    Treatment: Don’t take on extra overtime shifts or limit the amount, scheduling time to relax, and being more present

    Imbalance: spicy food
    Sign/symptoms: Diarrhoea (frequent trips to the bath room), upset/unhappy stomach
    Treatment: Avoid or cut out spicy, fatty and deep fried foods, or food/ingredients that have that effect on the body


    Imbalance: Laziness, bad lifestyle
    Sign/symptom: overweight, lazy, too much sleep, unmotivated
    Treatment: Set a morning alarm/ routine, exercise regularly, have goals to achieve things and have plans/schedule to go by to keep the body and mind active.

    Signs & Symptoms – Fear, anxiety, constipation, gas, dry skin
    How to manage – Swimming, gentle yoga, warm moist whole foods, walking

    Imbalance – excess sun exposure, over committing by pushing to hard, vigorous exercise
    Sign and symptoms – Anger, critical feelings, rash, heat, sensitivity to light
    How to manage – minimising excess and relaxing into exercise, walking, yoga, biking

    Imbalance – too much sleep. inactivity, too much computer/tv time
    Signs and symptoms – attachment, greed, accumulation of mucus, tumor, obesity
    How to manage – moderate sleep, running, vigorous yoga asana, bright colours
